The vineyards

At the first plantation the selection was strongly determined by the choice of vines available locally, this is how kékfrankos, cabernet franc and oportó were cultivated in the land.

Verpelét, Öreghegy

South-west sited, well situated territory, the wind is always blowing therefore fungusy is rare. As for the land it is well-drained, crumbled, tuffy forest soil. Blood sweat and tears characterize the work in this plantation. Disintegration was carried out by Jani himself with a 30 year-old tracked tractor. The machine was in such bad condition that he had to spend more time with fixing than with the actual work on the land. The acacia forest, which was gifted to him by his grandmother, was cut down by three people and 40 thousand of pickets were sawn during the winter. This is how he could diminish the expenses spent on plantation, at that time this was the only way to save money. The family owned only one tractor, so all the work required careful planning with the only resource available. Early morning they loaded fertilizer, which were spread out on the land by Johnny’s cousin, then Johnny ploughed it in the evening. After finishing the job he rode home on his bycicle.

From this vineyard we wish to make Grand Superior Bull’s Blood. Five varieties can be found on 12 hectares: kékfrankos, cabernet franc, cabernet sauvignon, blauburger and oportó.
